Thanks Ni Hao, Kai-Lan!

Layla really loves watching the show Ni Hao, Kai-Lan. She has picked up phrases and words in chinese from the show too. It's amazing how this show has taught her to some mandarin. Here are two examples:

Layla got a Mega Blocks Ni Hao, Kai Lan bedroom set for her birthday. She was playing with the little figurines and the blocks. As she was sitting, she got further away from the table. She got up from the chair, and went to the other side of the table, then she began pushing the table closer. As she pushed, she said "Tway." She did this at least three times.

One afternoon, Layla was playing with Yee Yee (Auntie Michelle) in the kitchen. She was laughing and she ran to one side of the table, then she said, "gun wo lai!" My sister and I looked puzzled. It took her a few times of repeating it before I understood what she was saying. It means "follow me!" I was so surprised, and proud that she had picked up an entire phrase.

I guess letting her watch television isn't so bad. Thank you for teaching my daughter chinese, Kai-Lan! Keep up the good work!

Layla and Adelyn were also lucky to meet Kai-Lan at Lougheed Mall over the weekend with her friends Isabel and Nathan. Layla was shy and a little scared, so Yee Yee had to carry her. Adelyn loved the big size character, and was excited to meet her. She was even brave enough to touch her.
What a fun afternoon!
