The New LAM Blog

Oops, I ran out of space on my blog.  I know I haven't been shrinking the size of my photos which is why it filled up so fast.  I tried deleting pictures and videos, but I still receive the message that I am out of space for uploading photos.  I'm not very computer savvy, and this blog has lasted three years.  It's time to move.  Please update your blog link with our new one:

Mya at Two Months

Our Little Mya is growing so quickly, it's hard to believe it's only been two months.  She is now into her three month old clothes, and soon she'll be out of those too.  She is already showing off her cute little personality, she started cooing and smiling at around 6 weeks.  When she is awake, she is very interested in watching her sisters, and looking at the white window blinds.

Mya still feeds every three-four hours.  We are hoping that a fairy will extend her sleeping hours at night, but at least she goes back to sleep after her feed and diaper change (watch me jinx it).
Bath time can be a hit or a miss.  Mya started out crying at every bath time, but now she is much better.  She will sit and admire herself in the mirror, and splash water about with her flailing arms.  Mya still cries when we put lotion on, and when she is getting dressed.

The carseat is also a hit or a miss.  Like Layla, Mya hated going into the carseat, and at times she would cry the whole ride.  It is getting better now that we removed the head hugger, but she isn't happy all the time.  Sometimes we still need to swing her to calm her down.  When she is settled in the carseat, she can sleep there for awhile.

Layla and Adelyn are not showing any jealousy at all.  In fact, it is the opposite.  They love to shower with kisses, get really close to her face, and touch her all the time.  And they get super excited when Mya smiles back at them.

Layla is a protective big sister, and shows a lot of concern for Mya.  Whenever Mya is crying, she tells me.  I don't need the baby monitor.    Layla also likes to lie next to Mya, and comfort her when she is crying, saying, "aww...Mya, it's okay."  Layla is also good at singing to her, and sometimes it does calm her down.  What a caring big sister!

Life Today...

I thought I would post something about how a typical day at the Lam household, of course there are good days and bad days, it's all unpredictable, and normal, right?  Here is what I jotted down earlier:

I am still learning the ropes of juggling three girls, and going with the flow of things.

After Len dropped off Layla at preschool, Adelyn and Mya was home with Len and myself until Len went to work.  Everything was fine, until I had to pick up Layla.  The weather looked wet but dry, so I planned to walk to the preschool.  I even started prepping Adelyn 40 minutes before we had to leave, while I was feeding and dressing Mya.

I got everything read to leave the house, and everything went down hill from there.  Adelyn insisted she wanted to take her umbrella, and I opened the door to tell her that she didn't need it...and it's raining!  With less than ten minutes to go, I knew that we would be late if we walked, and now Adelyn was refusing to leave the house.  Plan B, I'll have to drive, but now I have to grab the infant carseat, and take Mya out of the baby carrier, and get both girls into their carseats.  Did I mention that Mya HATES the carseat?  So, I have a screaming baby in the carseat, and now I have to strap Adelyn in, who is in a bad mood now because we are not walking, and she wants to stay home.  With good intentions of picking Layla on time, I am now late.

After lunch, the girls are arguing over toys, and I am trying to settle Mya.  I ignore the fighting and take Mya upstairs.  Layla comes up, and I have to send her downstairs.  The girls can get very loud, and it disrupts Mya as she tries to drift off to sleep.

After settling Mya and putting her in her crib, I go and check up on the girls.  I know that they went to their room, and I open the door to find...Ai-Yah!  Adelyn has taken ALL of her clothes out of the dresser and dumped them into a big pile.  Do I get mad?  Or should I be glad that they weren't fighting, and getting along, so that I could put Mya down?

After taking a picture, I retreated downstairs to figure out what was for dinner.

(I wasn't going to post this, but then I found it quite amusing when I re-read it.)

No Tricks, but Lots of Treats!

Halloween has come and gone, and I can't believe it's already November!  This Halloween was rainy, but the girls still had a blast.  Here's what we did:

We didn't make it out to the pumpkin patch with the preschool this year.   Instead, we got a beautiful pumpkin from Aunt Betty (Goo Poh), and a pumpkin from Grandma Lam.  Len helped the girl carve their pumpkins, and this year Layla was brave enough to help dig out the pumpkin guts.  Adelyn kept her fingers away from the dirty work, but watched with interest.

The pumpkins yielded perfect seed for roasting, and Len made some wonderful masterpieces, Tinkerbell, and Rupunzel.

Good job Len!

Amelia had a Halloween party, and everyone came in their cute little costumes.

Cute Little Marisa!

Guess who?

On Halloween Day, the girls went to Lougheed Mall for some trick-or-treating.

Before the event started

In the evening, the girls got in their boots, and braved the rain.  We went around the block, and got a pretty big bag of treats.

Ready to go!

Checking out their candy
I didn't take pictures, but we also decorated our home with Halloween crafts the girls have been making every year.  Mya missed out on the candy, but I'm sure next year she'll be right there in the action.

Happy One Month, Mya!

Mya is now one month old, time is just zooming by!  The girls are still smothering with hugs and kisses, especially Layla.  She wants to hold and touch Mya all the time.  She also gets very close to her face, and showers her with affection.

We celebrated Mya's one month with family, and she slept through the entire dinner!  How nice of her to let Mommy and Daddy enjoy our meals, thank you!

We love you so much, Little Muffin!

Thanks For Being so Giving!

This Thanksgiving we were blessed with quality time spent with family and friends.  Although it was a quiet weekend, we really appreciate those who brought dinner and fed us.  Thank you for celebrating Mya's first Thanksgiving with us.

Mya at Home

Layla and Adelyn have been all over Mya, kissing and hugging her when they have a chance.  It's nice to see that they love their little sister to bits.  Both girls always want to hold her, or help burp her.  And at the moment, the girls are willing to fetch a diaper, I'm not sure how long this will last.

Mya has been pretty good at home, she gives us a few hours of sleep, but she currently hates diaper changes, and bath time.  Mya will scream at the top of her lungs.  It sounds especially loud in the middle of the night, but perhaps it's pay back for all the noise the girls make during the day.

"Heading out" to the Hospital

Welcome to our family Mya!

I almost had you in the mini-van!  Yup, here's your birth story:

On Sunday morning, September 23rd, I was at the farmer's market with the girls and my sister, and the Tan-Ngs.  We talked about when the baby was coming, and names that we were considering.  Was it foreshadowing?  Because the same evening, I started contractions just before dinner around 6:30 pm.  Len's mom was over for dinner, and told us to eat dinner before heading out to the hospital since the contractions were still far apart.

When we called the doctor, he said not to go to the hospital until the contractions were closer to 5 minutes apart.  At that point, it was very irregular, 10 minutes, then 15 minutes, 20 minutes...and bearable. My mom came over so that Len's mom could gather some things to stay over, in case we did have to leave.

By the time Len's mom set up the bed and went to bed, it was close to 11pm.  We thought maybe I won't be having baby that night since the contractions were still ten minutes apart.  I decided to get some rest, and we went to bed thinking it could be a long night.  Nope, after 10 minutes of laying down something happened...  I felt a change... An adjustment, and the contractions were now strong and painful!   Oh, boy! I mean, Oh Girl!  I had to go to the hospital NOW!

Len and I left the house right away! Luckily, everything was ready to go since the contractions started earlier in the evening... And Len still forgot his wallet!  I had another huge contraction at the door before we left, I couldn't even stand.  Len's mom runs out to the car, and gives me a towel to sit on before we left.  I could really feel the pain of the contractions as I held the seatbelt, wrapping and squeezing it as I felt the wave of pain.  Len was going as fast as he could.  I was living in a moment of terror as I felt burning, and the head pushing downwards!  Was I going to have the baby in the car!?!

I could feel water coming out, and burning!  Len starts honking his horn, and we start going through red lights, I remember at least two interesctions! Len calls 911,  and tells them that we are on the way to the hospital. Oh no! Len makes a U-turn, we went left on Canada way... Oops!   I'm so scared to move, the pain is scaring me, I can't even sit down on the chair. I see the emergency doors, and a porter is out there to meet us, and he wants me to sit in a wheelchair.

I barely make it on the wheelchair, and I'm quickly rushed inside the hospital emergency ward...  But they stop us at reception, what!?!  You want me to answer questions and register?  I'm having a baby, and my contractions are super close, and everyone in the ward is staring at me in pain!  Okay, after a few questions, I was wheeled up to the birthing room.  I can have my baby...

Oh no, I can't!  I'm told to wait until my doctor arrives!  I am sooo close!!  I'm told to hold her in, and breathe through the contractions... My water is still intact!  Len comes in, he's relieved that he didn't miss the birth.  I crush his fingers as I breathe through the contractions, keeping baby in.  When I see my doctor walk through the doors, and I start pushing.  The first push, the head was out, and baby was out on the second push!  Mya was born just after midnight, 12:08 am at 7lb 4oz on September, 24th.  (The same birthday as my sister, Grace.)

Back to School & Updates

September has been a whirlwind of events for our family, and it's still not over yet.  Baby "M" has to still make her appearance, and we are anxiously waiting... well, I am.

Adelyn's 1st day of preschool

Layla's 1st day of her 2nd year in preschool

The girls just started preschool, and it has been going very well.  No tears were shed, and they have adjusted very well.  I love how it gives me a window of "me" time to run errands, see the doctor, and just to get things organized and ready before they come home.  One Monday, Len and I even had time to go for breakfast without the girls.  It will also give me some alone time when the baby comes.

Adelyn's 3 year Update

Adelyn just turned three when she entered preschool, and I am really proud that she didn't cry.  I'm glad that Layla is there to help guide her, and transition her into all the routines.  Adelyn is different from Layla when she started school,  she doesn't know her letters or numbers yet.  She can say them, but she can't read them.  I'm sure she will pick it up at school, and we'll also have to work on them at home.

Adelyn is still Layla's number one fan, although things are slowly changing.  Adelyn can have her own opinion, and she can be quite stubborn.  She knows how to cry and scream, and squeeze out fake tears.  It's very upsetting when it happens in public places and restaurants, but she is also very good at shutting it off... if she feels like it.  We are quite good at gaging what is real or fake now.

Layla's 4.5 years Update

Layla is growing up to be quite a lady.  She is very curious about things, and she's not shy about asking questions.  Right now, she likes to ask questions about the baby.  How is she going to come out of my body?  How did she get there?  Sometimes, I can divert her away, but other times, she just likes to dig deeper and deeper.  Then some time will pass, and she'll ask me about it again.

Layla is pretty busy with school, she goes Monday-Friday, and on Saturday mornings she has Chinese School.  On Friday evenings she sleeps over at Grandma Lam's, luckily, Grandma lives just across the street from Chinese school.  On Mondays, Layla has swimming lessons.  She has been having trouble passing Sea Otter, but we just realized that it could have been because she was wearing her water shoes into the water.  Hopefully, this time around she will do much better.

Layla is much more aware of herself.  She will get embarassed, and pouts if she thinks that we are laughing at her, when most of the time we are laughing because she did something or said something very cute.  Layla also likes to be the center of attention.  She likes to perform for us, and loves it when we clap.  When Layla was given the chance to be the flower girl at Sook Sook's wedding, she LOVED it.  She was so graceful, and everyone loved her performance, and clapped when she was done.

Together

There are times when the girls do things deliberately to make each other upset.  For example, just now, I gave each girl a cookie.  Adelyn gives me back the cookie, and says she doesn't want it.  Layla eats most of her cookie, and set down her last bite, and when she turns around, Adelyn had stuffed the last bite into her mouth!  Layla is upset, and Adelyn is smirking!

When the girls are in the car, they can also get on each other's nerves.  One girl will be singing, but the other girl wants her to stop.  Or, they don't want each other to look outside "their" side of the window.  *Sigh*, it looks like there will be more things like this to come.

The girls can be on each other's good side, and when they are, they can play very well together.  They love dressing up, playing ballerina, school, house, princesses, store, just about everything.

My girls are girlie girls, they love wearing dresses all the time.  And they are at an age where I will dress them in an outfit, and when I come back, they are in a dress.  Even skirts can't compete with the power of the dress.  Even at night, the girls prefer jammy dresses over plain old pjs.

Both the girls are excited that we're going to have another princess.  In the mornings, both girls want to feel my belly, and give Baby "M" a kiss.  Layla likes to feel the baby when she is moving, and she gets super excited when it happens.  Sometimes, Layla will put her head on my belly, and tell me that the baby is talking to her.  The girls are also fasinated with my belly button, they like to touch it, and tell me that it's moved.

We can't wait to add Baby "M" to this mix!
