Smiles and Attitude

Adelyn's 22 month update

Adelyn is doing very well at expressing herself these days. She's starting to string words together. She can be heard saying, "I wah whan to!" (I don't want to!) if she doesn't want to do something, "I turn" when she wants a turn, or "Go ahhhhwaaay!" usually to Layla, if she's bugging her.

Adelyn is also becoming more independent, and wants to do things by herself. She likes to climb into the car, and into the carseat all by herself. And if we try to put her in, she will arch her back, and throw a tantrum. One time, she cried all the way home, and when we took her out of the car, she refused to go inside. She sat on the gravel and continued crying because she didn't get her way. This girl has attitude!

Adelyn likes to climb into her crib when it's time for bed. She likes to climb onto the rails, and look over and say, "help, help," then we guide her by telling her to put her foot on the mattress, and pull herself up, and over the railing.

Adelyn is also interested in going potty. Adelyn will tell us she needs to go to the bathroom, she'll say "pee, pee" or "owh neu" (pee in chinese). Most of the time, she has peed in her diaper, and when we put her on the potty, she says, "wipe" right away. But lately, she has been making a few more pees in the potty. One day, while I was folding clothes, she pulled Layla's underwear out, and asked to wear it. (Layla was a bit upset.) Adelyn wore her sister's underwear proudly, and she did tell me that she need to pee once, and she made it to the potty! But when the girls went outside to the backyard, Adelyn wasn't fast enough. She came in, and as she said "pee, pee," it was too late, it was already all over the floor. Good try, Adelyn! There's no rush right now for her to be potty trained, but it's nice to know that she's interested. We'll give it a go again, if she asks. Adelyn does tell us when she needs to pooh, pooh, and 80% she gets it in the potty.

Adelyn is a pretty good eater when she likes the food. She's still messy and likes to use her hands when she knows that it's faster. She'll start off using a fork or spoon, but then she'll use her hands, while still holding onto the fork. Her favourite food right now is corn on the cob. I love hearing her little teeth chomp away, it's so cute! Adelyn still has a big sweet tooth, especially for ice cream in a cone. She can finish her's faster than Layla, then be on the look out for more!

Adelyn enjoys playing house with her big sister, but it doesn't always go smoothly. Layla loves to tell her what to do, and sometimes, Adelyn doesn't understand, or just doesn't want to do it. For example, Layla always wants Adelyn to be the baby, and wants her to sit in the stroller, so she could push her around, but sometime's Adelyn just doesn't want to. Or sometimes, Layla wants Adelyn to nap, so she tucks Adelyn in with blankets, but Adelyn just wants to get up and play, and that's when trouble starts.

Layla's Update (3 years & 4 months)

Layla is definitely high energy, and with that comes being a big girl, a princess, a ballerina, and a mommy, depending on her mood. Layla likes to help out at home, and then there are times, when she just plainly refuses to do something, like clean up her toys.

Layla loves crafts, and making things with her hands. She enjoys artsy activities, that involves, gluing and cutting. Layla is very interested in using scissors. Drawing and stickers are also activities that will keep her busy. Layla also enjoys playing princess, having tea parties, and of course playing house and being the Mommy.

Layla is still very curious about things, right now she likes to talk about being born, and understanding the concept. She questions why she isn't in certain pictures, and I tell her she wasn't born yet, and now, she likes to add, "Like when I was born, right?" "Last time, when I was born, I was so small."

Layla loves being a princess, and with that comes, being in a dress all the time. And if she's not in a dress, out comes the tutu, and fairy wings. Layla loves to dress up. As soon as we get to Isabel's house, she's in a costume in a blink of an eye.

Layla is getting much better at number concepts. She can count items and tell you how many things there are, before she would randomly count things over and over. She can read numbers 1-10. Layla knows how to read most letters of the alphabet, and she can write a few, like o, i, l, t. She'll randomly put letters together and tell you that she is spelling something. Layla enjoys drawing, rainbows, flowers, and people are common themes in her pictures.

Now that preschool is finished, I asked Layla what activities she was interested in and she told me ballet and soccer. So, this summer she will be trying out those activities. We also started swimming lessons. Layla loves the pool, but she didn't like the idea of being in lessons. Now that she's started, she loves her swimming class. It's even harder to get her out of the pool, even when her fingers and toes are like raisins!

And did I tell you this girl can get herself into things? Here's a picture of Layla with a velcro chopstick entangled in her hair, I had to cut that sucker out...

Good times together...

and not so good times.

I love my babes!
